How to Block Your Ex on Email

You can reduce direct email exposure with your mailbox’s blocking or filtering controls. Before changing delivery, keep a working channel for necessary child-related communication and any applicable communication requirements.

If you want email to reach Message Shield

Set up Message Shield for Email before blocking or deleting incoming mail. It requires Protect and BestInterest version 3.2 or higher and imports forwarded coparent email into your private timeline. Boundary Line handles texts and calls; it does not forward email.

In Gmail, blocking a sender sends future email to Spam, and Gmail does not forward spam. Blocking the same sender can therefore stop Email Shield imports. Use a sender-specific forwarding filter and, if you want less inbox exposure, archive matching mail rather than sending it to Spam or Trash. Check that a new matching message reaches BestInterest before relying on the rule.

Gmail

On a computer, open a message, choose More next to Reply, then Block [sender]. Future mail from that address goes to Spam. Review Google’s blocking instructions and forwarding instructions.

Being copied on a group conversation does not make a blocked sender’s mail reliably bypass the block. Check essential school and activity messages after changing your rules.

Outlook and Hotmail

Hotmail accounts use Outlook.com. Use the message’s Block action or the Blocked senders and domains controls in Outlook’s mail settings. New Outlook, classic Outlook, and Outlook.com have different menus; use Microsoft’s instructions for your version.

Blocking generally routes mail to Junk rather than preventing the person from sending it. Check forwarding and junk rules together if you use Email Shield.

Yahoo Mail

Use Yahoo Mail’s blocked-address controls. Yahoo’s current and classic interfaces differ; follow Yahoo’s blocking guide. Check what the selected action does to future mail before combining it with forwarding.

If you want to stop importing email into BestInterest, remove the provider forwarding rule. Resetting your private BestInterest address also invalidates the old destination; existing imported messages remain in your timeline.
